Our Top 8 Girl Boss Moments of 2018

This post is written from the perspective of Megan Ramwa (Founder, Sonder Toronto).

While I reflect back on the last year, I can’t help but feel a little woozy because so much has happened, and yet, it feels like not much has happened at all. The feeling of accomplishing a lot, but never enough, is the growing pain of every entrepreneur!

2018 was a year of change of growth. Back in February, I wrote a personal blog post about my challenges with running a business in addition to working a full-time job. It was the first time I actually felt confident enough to share my idea with the world. However, prior to writing the blog, I was hiding my business because I was afraid of failing. The fear of failure held me back and it wasn’t until a good friend hit me with the truth and said: “you’re the only one who can make this happen,” and that’s when I realized that she was right. I couldn’t sit around and wait for something to happen, and neither should you! Real action and accomplishments take place only when you decide that you can do it! If it weren’t for this realization, I don’t think it would’ve been possible to accomplish all that we did in 2018.

“Personal growth is not a matter of learning new information, but of unlearning new limits.” - Alan Cohen

So, without further-ado, I’d like to share with our top 8 girl-boss-moments that made our business grow this past year.

  1. No tech? No problem!
We were so fixated on building our ideal website. Without the right resources, it’s hard to do that, so we learned to get scrappy and build our own damn site (it’s getting an upgrade later this month)! Check it out! www.sondertoronto.com

  2. Network, network, network!
We hit up some really cool events (even spoke at some!), worked in co-working spaces like Make Lemonade networked on Bumble Bizz, and met some really cool entrepreneurs like the founders of The Gist News, Sisterhood Media and Moda Society!

  3. Tested out the Early Adopter Program
Our early adopter program is to on-board early-stage users to help test our service. The program had a lot of interesting twists and turns, but we’re looking forward to building it further in 2019!

  4. Women of Sonder
We on-boarded an amazing group of women for our first group of early adopters.

  5. Hosted a Photo shoot
This was for our early-stage users - exclusive perks of joining ;)

  6. We were featured on a blog
Karen from Makin’ The Bacon featured us on her blog. She was also an early stage user of our business and we’re so thankful for her for reaching out to us via Instagram (social media can be a good thing)!

  7. #WomenInBusiness
We built a pitch deck and knocked it out of the park!

  8. We prepared the launch of this very blog!
    Posting every Wednesday.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far! While 2018 was a year for growth, we plan on making 2019 a year of execution (and even more growth). If you’re interested in joining and supporting our early adopter program, please fill out the form and we’ll be in touch with next steps!

Until then, hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous new year!

With love & inspiration,

Megan
